Russian Language Zone

Church of Christ Over Spilled Blood

Welcome to the Russian Language Zone! So you've decided to learn this mighty language. Give yourself a hand, because you made a good choice. Russia is a land of cold wilderness stretching across vast lengths of the earth, but it is a country filled with warm-hearted people and hearty food and drink.

There is much to enjoy in Russian culture and language. A bowl of borsht and a pirozhky can warm you up any winter night along with a shot of good clean vodka. Then, on really cold nights, you can head for the banya or Russian bathhouse and thaw in a 180 F dry sauna, followed by a dip in a 40 F cold tub. I can guarantee that it will fix whatever ails you.

As for the language, it is well-known as being the language with the world's greatest vocabulary of curse words. In fact, it's almost a separate dialect and they call it "mat".

And although Russians may seem reluctant to smile, it's only because they believe in not wasting good cheer. A wise concept indeed.

Before you get started, make sure you can read and write the Russian alphabet. If you can't, just go to the Cyrillic Writing Zone and there you will learn the alphabet. Keep in mind that the handwritten letters look quite different from printed letters, but I trust you'll catch on quickly. Let's get started!
