English Listening Zone

Turkish coffee

Remember being read to as a kid either at home or in school? I do. In elementary school, my teachers would read to the class from fourth grade all the way to seventh. I remember my fifth grade class especially.

My teacher read J.R.R. Tolkein's The Hobbit and C.S. Lewis' The Last Battle, but, like any kid, I usually spent those periods letting my mind wander to a hundred different things and missed what happened in the book.

But, as I am now older and wiser, I have come to greatly appreciate books, especially being a fiction writer, and it's no secret that oral comprehension is one of the most important parts of learning a foreign language.

That is why I've created the English Listening Zone, a place for foreigners learning English to come and listen to stories told in English.

This section relies purely on audio recordings (made by yours truly) to help you practice your ability to listen to and understand English.

Each audio clip is one chapter in length and is supplemented by comprehension quizzes and English vocabulary lists so you can test yourself and improve your language skills. Click here to go to the English Listening Book List
